Rogue Trader - TSF18 Space Zoat Loorg

Welcome back, today's miniature is from the classic Warhammer 40,00 Rogue Trader Space Zoat's range, this one is named 'Loorg' and classified as a Hero, there were three other classes of Space Zoat, Officer, Trooper and Heavy Weapons Trooper.

I haven't read much fluff about this race and only what was written in the section from page 201 from the Warhammer 40,00 Rogue Trader rulebook (which I have included below for your enjoyment), I am sure this race was mentioned in Ian Watson's 1993 Warhammer 40,00 novel 'Space Marine' and were slaves of the Tyranid Fleet (fleet name escape me).

I didn't find this the most enjoyable miniature to paint and am dreading painting the other three miniatures from this range but I went for the classic green theme of the adverts.

I took this image from the classic Warhammer 40,00 Chapter Approved - Book of Astronomican as I love the name graphic and again confusing product code, TSF18??? (answers in the comments section please).

Diego's Space Raider's Kickstarter campaign has a new version of the Space Zoat under the Alien Monsters header below and I look forward to painting this one and adding it as the leader of my Citadel Zoats.

Thanks for visiting, now get following :)

p.s. I have a spare Space Zoat Loorg for trade if you have anything really juicy for me :)

RT602 - Ambull

Hello, well finally got around to painting one of the few alien miniatures created for the Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader universe.

The Ambull which was first described in the Rogue Trader rulebook page 207 and the miniature sculpted by Michael Perry was released March 1988 under the RT602 product code, I never did get the Rogue Trader product code system.

I went for the traditional colour scheme as shown in White Dwarf 99 and while painting this miniature it got me thinking that maybe it had its origins in the Umber Hulk of the Dungeons and Dragons universe or even the Ankheg of the Forgotten Realms setting as they both have similarities.

Here's my version.

Below are the first game rules for Ambulls taken from page 207 of the 1987 Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader rulebook.

The first Ambull, the miniature lost those antennae near it's mouth

Below are the rules for Ambulls with points cost taken from page 64 of White Dwarf 99.

The D&D Umber Hulk, I think you'll agree there is a likeness.

There's another great Ambull post over on sho3box, I recommend you visit and follow for essential reading.

Thanks for popping in and please follow as Space Zoats are coming soon.

Citadel Judge Dredd Perps Part 5

Borag Thungg Earthlet,

Here's this months 1985 citadel Judge Dredd miniatures I am still working on.

These miniatures are again all from the JD3 Perps and Muties range.

First we have Morgar leader of the 'Mutie Brotherhoodin the Cursed Earth saga progs 65-66.  Also Fettuchini is a variant of this miniature. I have already painted several members of his gang, Brother JobeeBrother GomorrahMutie with BazookaMutie in Dress and Squid Face and Brother Obee are being prepped up at the moment so you hopefully see these soon.

Next we have 'The Fink' member of the Angel family (gang) who attempts to get revenge on Judge Dredd for the the death of his family in Progs 193-196, like most of my miniatures I had already painted this back in the day and you can see him here 'Old Fink' but I felt the need to strip him and have another go 20+ years on.

Here we have (Mrs) Mad Ma Mahaffy a character from the early days of Judge Dredd Prog 18, the head under her arm is a 'Brainbloom' (and that's as much as I am going to tell without spoiling the story).
Mrs Mad Ma Mahaffy

Next we have two of the three Wreckers in the range, 'Wrecker Charging' and Wrecker 'Advancing' from the story 'The Wreckers' in Progs 374-375.  I have seen a few painted examples of these miniatures and most tend to go for the Ninja black look which if you look at the cover of Prog 375 below you will see was not the case as they were ordinary citizens (perps).

And finally we have 'Don Helmut' the name says it all, he is a variant of one of the Wrecker sculpts I have yet to repaint and has had a head swop with the Security miniature, as well as his Wreckers crowbar and badge he also appears to carrying a Lawgiver , Let's hope he doesn't pull the trigger.

Rogue Trader - Space Minotaur

Hi, today we have another of Diego Serrate's Space Raiders miniatures the Space Minotaur from the original Kickstarter campaign, heavily influenced by the original Rogue Trader Minotaur's from the 1989 Easter Sale Flyer.  I found this miniature a lot more difficult to paint and get into than the Piscean Warrior although I do love his gun as it reminds of the Manglore's guns (Zorg ZF-1 Pod Weapon) in the Fifth Element movie.

This is the second miniature I have painted from this range my first was the Piscean Warrior which can be seen here: painted Piscean Warrior.
Unlike the Piscean Warrior I have not seen many painted examples of this miniature except these two great blog post from JB over on Leadplague and Roebeast.

The Kickstarter campaign can be followed here: Space Raiders and for those of you who really loved Citadel's Realm of Chaos miniatures checkout Diego's The Pantheon of Chaos.

Here is a selection of miniatures from the Space Raiders campaign.

As you can see there is quite a selection of miniatures, space Zoats, an Ambull, renegade Orks and there's still more in development.

Still on the topic of non citadel miniatures I would recommend you go over to http://blindbeggarminiatures.blogspot.co.uk/ and check out all of Paul's lovely Pulp, Steampunk, Cthulhu type miniature sculpts, Paul sent me a gift of this native Amerian indian looking fellow brandishing what looks like a Vicker's gun I think he would not look out of place in the Cursed Earth or on Rogue Trader's Helsreach.

Thanks for visiting

Citadel Judge Dredd Perps Part 4

Borag Thungg Earthlet,

Here's this months 1985 citadel Judge Dredd miniatures I have been working on in my spare time.

These miniatures are again all from the JD3 Perps and Muties range.

First up is 'Mutie with Bazooka' although it looks more like a Lazooka from Rogue Trooper to me, again another member of the mutant band the 'Mutie Brotherhood' lead by Morgar and appeared in the Cursed Earth saga progs 65-66 plus the superb star pinups below by Brian Bolland where he is sitting in a shopping trolley eating pizza. He sports a Fez which reminds of 'the Turk' character from Kelly's Heroes.

Next another Mutie Brotherhood member 'Brother Jobee' you can see him eating Heinz beans in the pin-up below, armed with a double barrel shotgun and wearing riding boots dressed in jodhpurs, this mutie has style.

Bottom left - Brother Jobee eating beans.
Bottom right - Mutie with Bazooka sitting in a shopping trolley eating pizza.

Brother Jobee is standing right of Morgar looming over Judge Dredd.

Next up we have 'Monkey Face' another Mutie armed with Spit carbine, I chose an orange jump suit as it reminded me of the old Planet of the Apes movies, I am surprised no company ever made a licensed Planet of the Apes wargame back in the day as there are loads of cool ideas for miniatures in the movies.

Check out the orange jump suits

Next we have a perp named 'Kelv armed with two pistols and sporting some sort of mechanical or armoured trousers, I don't remember this character in any of the stories if you do let me know, I am guessing the name is wrong. His face has real character and reminds me of the leader of the gasoline refinery in Mad Max 2.

Kelv - back

Lastly we have two 'Citi-Def' miniatures, 'Citi-Def with Machine Gun' and 'Citi-Def', I did these in  the same colour scheme as the last months Citi-Def attacking miniature I blogged about, still undecided on which Citi-Bloc they are going to represent.
These two miniatures have also been sold by FASA as Temporal Marauders for their 1986 Dr Who range and are actually still available on various online shops like this one. I have read somewhere that these were incorporated in the Judge Dredd range in 1986 after the FASA Dr Who range but my Judge Dredd versions have 1985 on the slotta tags and on my FASA versions you can clearly see on bottom of the metal base the outlines of the slotta tags before the metal disc was molded around the tags or that's what the evidence suggests, not that it matters though.

Morgar's now prepped and on the painting table along with some wreckers so keep a eye on my twitter feed for work in progress images.

I hope you are following this blog as there is so many more to come, Florix Grabundae
