Navigator - RT601 - Adventurers

Hey friends, well I finally did it, I finished the Rogue Trader Adventurers Navigator which I started painting about a year ago.  I was tempted to drill a hole in his forehead and insert a ball of green stuff for his third eye but I thought such vandalism to a classic miniature would be heresy, here is my interpretation of him dressed in his Imperial navy uniform and armed with a laspistol. I gave his flesh a base of classic citadel Rotting Flesh paint to give the feel that he spends all his time in the void and gets no sunlight. I think he makes a perfect addition to any Imperial Inquisitors retinue, he reminds me of the navigator Vitali Googol in Ian Watson's Inquisition War Trilogy and as I have painted up the miniature I think resembles Draco he will make a perfect Vitali or maybe Azul Petrov another navigator character from the Harlequin novel (part 2).   

 In the Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader rulebook (1st Edition) and accompanying supplements many of the miniatures from the early RT ranges appeared in black and white illustrations, I had a brief look but could not find him, if you see this miniature illustrated anywhere please let me know.

I also thought I would share some other miniatures from my collection, these characters I painted for use in the Dark Heresy RPG, some of these are more modern but I needed NPCs so had to sell out.
An Imperial Witch Hunter and his Retinue
Lex Mechanic Sage, Sister Hospitaller Chirurgeon, Scribe
Servo Skulls, Witch Hunter, Cherubim

Titan Crew - Princeps Seniores, Space Santa, Talisman Timescape Scientist (the titan crewman was painted in the late 80's hence the different style)
RT601 - Pirate (Sensei), Commissar (Pirate Captain), Sanctioned Psyker (Sensei and Commissar were painted in the late 80's hence the different style)

    I'm a big fan of the Dark Heresy Rpg. I've got an imperial guardsman, I spent most of his xp on increasing his stats and I took him the route of inquisitorial legate at rank 4 instead of sergeant and access to the forbidden lores has really paid off for the group.
    Your figs look the business wouldn't want to run into them as part of a rival inquisitors cadre!

      cheers dude, I have painted up a few of Colonel Schaeffer's Last Chancers as various charcters for Dark Heresy I think their uniqueness fits in well, your Guardman sounds quite formidable.

    Those Rogue Trader era minis have a character and charm you can't find elsewhere. Great painting on these!

    Its great to see the Navigator finished after knowing that it was in the pipeline for so long. That must be quite satisfying.

    I was tempted to add an eye to my version of that model too, but couldnt attack it with a drill either. RT lore didnt specify that all Navigators had the eye anyway. I like to think that he has a creepy third eye on the palm of one of his hands, like the guy from Pans Labyrinth:

    I quite like a lot of the more modern GW miniatures (even though those Inquisitorial types are eleven years old now, so not that modern really. Modern like The Matrix is modern...). The Inquisitorial retinue boxes are of the highest quality sets that they have ever produced as far as I am concerned. They also have a vibe that harks back to the older era anyway. I am particularly fond of the living dot matrix printer guy.

      thank dude, after our chat I thought I would have to put up a few photos of some of my Inquisitor retinue just to add to the pool of inspiration out there, I have so much more to take pictures of but as you know I am a busy man.

      That creature from Pans Labyrinth really gave me the creeps a true creature of chaos.

      I too love the later Inquisitorial types and purchased all the miniatures before GW got up to their old tricks and discontinued the lines, the Daemonhosts will be the next 'modern' miniatures I paint as I am a big fan of Cherubael and Profaniti in the Eisenhorn novels, after the cats (Gyrinx) you sent me of course.

      Hey Suber, thanks dude, I really got the fear with this miniature thinking I may not do it justice but my mission is to paint all the old adventurers and mercenaries so I had to try, it turned out ok in the end.

    I just found your blog via sho3box, and wow... what a great Oldhammer 40k collection! I'm truly impressed, given the effort and cost it took me just to acquire a few vintage Marines and even a single Squat off of eBay.

      Thanks I hope you are following this blog lots more to come, I bought most of these miniatures when RT first came out, painted them in terrible enamels and stripped and now repainting as a nostalgic project :)

      Aha! I have a few plastic "beaky" marines left from the old days... sadly you can't strip the paint (Testors and Humbrol enamel of course!) off those very easily so I haven't tried to reclaim them yet.

      Yeah don't bother stripping the old plastic beakies even Dettol which does affect harm later plastics melts them :)
