Warhammer 40000 Rogue Trader - Minotaur

Hello, a rare treat for you today, a classic Oldhammer miniature, a Warhammer 40000 Minotaur, sculpted by Nick Bibby and released for a brief period via a mail order flyer
in 1987.
I recently spotted that the base miniature for this minotaur sculpt is the C Series - C25 Minotaur - 'Big Mac Gore Blade' (see image below).

He is equipped with a Cyborg head with targeter and sensory array eye, mounted Imperial Army Autogun and a human sized Bolter with a massive grip, probably left over from the original axe Big Mac held, he also appears to wearing flak/mesh armour.

As usual lots of photos from all angles to show you parts of the miniature you never get to see.

I bet you are thinking of his stats in Warhammer 40000, I would go with a Beastman Minor Hero or a Ogryn Champion, see stats below.

Those who took part in the Space Raiders kickstarter might remember the Space Minotaur I painted up when I received my miniatures, you can read the post here

There are 3 Space Minotaurs available at Knightmare miniatures here.

C22 Creatures and other Oldhammer delights

Hello, today's post is a mishmash of recently painted Oldhammer miniatures that have been sitting on various drafts for a while and I don't really have enough content for their own separate blog posts.

You may notice that some of today's photos have a fading (gradient?) blue background, these are my newer photos as I am currently experimenting with a more Oldhammer looking background, any tips are welcome.

First up we have the 'Chaos Demon' from the Citadel Miniatures C Series 1985 C22 Creatures.  This is a hideous creature with two horned heads mounted on worm like necks which are connected to want appears to be an upside down bloated human female body, a vagina between the heads and warty backside while saggy breasts dangling between the muscular arms the propel it.  As the description above portrays I think you will agree it is a grotesque creature that would be well placed in any Nurgle chaos army, it reminds me of the terrifying creatures from the The Thing 1982 movie.  As for the paint job, I used original Citadel Colour Rotten Flesh as a base and washed it with various browns, purples and greens then highlighted with Vallejo Game Color Dead Flesh, simple job really.

If only Games Workshop had the courage to make such miniatures today.

Next we have another 1985 C22 Creatures miniature, a 'Werefox' this miniature was painted last year for the Night Horrors Facebook Group Halloween painting competition which is always good fun as rarely get a chance to go through my Gothic/Night Horror miniature boxes.  This miniature is tiny and was quite a challenge to paint, the legs are as thin as pins, I went for dirty flesh tones as I imagine she lives in the forest and googled fox faces for the head colours.  The red squirrel on the base came as a freebie in a trade from a OTC member, I can't remember who but I thank you.  I have plans to visit this miniature when I acquire some brass etched leafs.

Following on we have two Chaos Hounds which also carry the C22 C Series code, the C22 Chaos Hounds and Handlers were released in 1987 and had ten hound types and appeared with 3 different handlers, a Chaos Warrior, a Chaos Dwarf and a Dark Elf.

Below we have Weirdspike and Saberwolf the only painted two so far but others will come soon as it was quite enjoyable. I went for a flayed flesh look for Weirdspike and rotten flesh for Saberwolf.

I am also still slowly working through my Pantheon of Chaos miniatures by Knightmare Miniatures I picked these up during the Kickstarter campaign but if you missed this campaign you can now buy these from their webstore.

First we have Pantheon of Chaos Beastman PTB08 'Arnak Ghuul' this towering beastman makes the perfect Khorngor champion.  He was sculpted in the style of the original Realm Of Chaos artwork, heavily armoured, carrying a massive chopping weapon and adorned with trinkets, talismans, etc  There was only one colour I could possibly paint this one, red.

Another Pantheon of Chaos miniature recently finished, this time a Chaos Champion PC06 'Zz'andor' a favourite of mine as it's obviously a tribute to 'Zygor Snake Arms' the 1983 Mark of Chaos miniature featured in the Citadel Compendium One.  He carries a multitude of weapons, an axe, spiked mace, stone hammer, some sort of sword and has a magic potion in his belt, would you fight him? I certainly wouldn't :D

A nice and bizarre miniature to paint which truly represents the hordes of chaos to me, for the flesh I went for Citadel Colour Titillating Pink base then Citadel Expert paint set no.6 purple and then brought to life with various Vallejo pink shades.  I may revisit the weapons soon as I am sure I never finished them off, they look ok in the cabinet but under photographic scrutiny they need more work and I may paint the flesh in 'Ardcoat' for a slippery wet effect.

Rogue Trader - TSF18 Space Zoat Loorg

Welcome back, today's miniature is from the classic Warhammer 40,00 Rogue Trader Space Zoat's range, this one is named 'Loorg' and classified as a Hero, there were three other classes of Space Zoat, Officer, Trooper and Heavy Weapons Trooper.

I haven't read much fluff about this race and only what was written in the section from page 201 from the Warhammer 40,00 Rogue Trader rulebook (which I have included below for your enjoyment), I am sure this race was mentioned in Ian Watson's 1993 Warhammer 40,00 novel 'Space Marine' and were slaves of the Tyranid Fleet (fleet name escape me).

I didn't find this the most enjoyable miniature to paint and am dreading painting the other three miniatures from this range but I went for the classic green theme of the adverts.

I took this image from the classic Warhammer 40,00 Chapter Approved - Book of Astronomican as I love the name graphic and again confusing product code, TSF18??? (answers in the comments section please).

Diego's Space Raider's Kickstarter campaign has a new version of the Space Zoat under the Alien Monsters header below and I look forward to painting this one and adding it as the leader of my Citadel Zoats.

Thanks for visiting, now get following :)

p.s. I have a spare Space Zoat Loorg for trade if you have anything really juicy for me :)

Rogue Trader - Space Minotaur

Hi, today we have another of Diego Serrate's Space Raiders miniatures the Space Minotaur from the original Kickstarter campaign, heavily influenced by the original Rogue Trader Minotaur's from the 1989 Easter Sale Flyer.  I found this miniature a lot more difficult to paint and get into than the Piscean Warrior although I do love his gun as it reminds of the Manglore's guns (Zorg ZF-1 Pod Weapon) in the Fifth Element movie.

This is the second miniature I have painted from this range my first was the Piscean Warrior which can be seen here: painted Piscean Warrior.
Unlike the Piscean Warrior I have not seen many painted examples of this miniature except these two great blog post from JB over on Leadplague and Roebeast.

The Kickstarter campaign can be followed here: Space Raiders and for those of you who really loved Citadel's Realm of Chaos miniatures checkout Diego's The Pantheon of Chaos.

Here is a selection of miniatures from the Space Raiders campaign.

As you can see there is quite a selection of miniatures, space Zoats, an Ambull, renegade Orks and there's still more in development.

Still on the topic of non citadel miniatures I would recommend you go over to http://blindbeggarminiatures.blogspot.co.uk/ and check out all of Paul's lovely Pulp, Steampunk, Cthulhu type miniature sculpts, Paul sent me a gift of this native Amerian indian looking fellow brandishing what looks like a Vicker's gun I think he would not look out of place in the Cursed Earth or on Rogue Trader's Helsreach.

Thanks for visiting

Rogue Trader - Piscean Warrior

Hi Folks,
Here is my Piscean warrior or Saharduin to some of you sculpted by Diego Serrate over on the Oldhammer forum and Facebook community, Pisceans are a xenos race of fish like creatures that first made an appearance on the first March 1987 Warhammer 40K mail order flyer (which I have somewhere), the race never saw the light of day in the Rogue Trader book, I guess as it was a larger miniature the logistics of making them into a viable race at the time would prove difficult.  Due to it's scarcity the original citadel miniature goes for quite a price on Ebay nowadays so Diego done all the Rogue Trader fans out there a favour and sculpted his own interpretation of the Piscean warrior that cost less than a modern day metal space marine, personally I prefer his version as the bolt gun on the original Piscean warrior did not sit right with me.  I would like to think he is equipped with some sort of needle pistol (mini harpoons?), a giant shark knife to fend off the predators of his planet and a reverse Aqua-lung to pipe H2O into his gills for survival.

I painted the Piscean warrior as if he was coming out of the sea and originally I had gloss varnished him as a wet effect but the iPhone camera didn't like it so I Vallejo matt varnished him.

Here is the inspiration for my colour scheme, I was Action Force mad as a kid until first year senior school when I discovered D&D
