Warband Progress Part 3

Hi Folks,
More Beastmen for my Khornate chaos warband for the coming Oldhammer Event. I am almost out of Realm of Chaos Beastmen so the next additions will be pre-slotta Beastmen and Broo, old school all the same. I am not going to buy any RoC Beastmen from off Ebay as I am sure there is a price hike on RoC miniatures going on since the announcement of the Oldhammer Event. (Scandalous)

Warband Progress Part 2

Hey Friends,
As you know my Khornate chaos warband is progressing for the Oldhammer Event and here are the latest additions. I have tons of follower miniatures to paint and choose from, I still have to roll and find a suitable RoC chaos champion miniature now. I have a few duplicate chaos thug miniatures for swap which I will be posting on here and the B.L.O.O.D forum soon.

RT601 - Adventurers - ExTech, Hero

Hello,  Today's miniatures are more from the classic RT601 - Adventurers range, we have the ExTech and the Hero. On their slotta mounts it reads Tech Adept and Feral Hero why GW didn't put this on the listings is a mystery as both sound better.

I enjoyed painting the ExTech, he carries an early flamer which looks similar to those carried in the Aliens movies so I imagine the miniature designer had Aliens in mind when he/she scuplted the miniature.

The Hero reminds me of a John Carter of Mars, a Techno Barbarian who cares nothing for armour and relies on agility and dexterity to stay alive, he is wearing a loin cloth showing that he is either quite fashion conscious and accessorizing or that he is covering up his ballet tights.

I must point out both wear goggles which was a must for RT 1st Edition equipment, watch out for those blind grenades!

I have listened to several audio books this week while painting.

Isaac Asimov - The Foundation Trilogy by the BBC Radiophonic workshop with a very well known cast of UK actors playing the characters, I highly recommend this, it was about my 10th listen. You can see where many of the W40k concepts came from here.

Isaac Asimov - The Gods Themselves, this was a weird one not sure I will listen to it again.

Triplanetary by Doc E. E. Smith, I highly recommend this one two, a brilliant Sci-Fi story with plenty of history tied in.

My Realm of Chaos miniatures are coming on and i will have more Beastmen pictures to post hopefully tomorrow.

Enjoy

Guess what I have been painting? Warband Progress Part 1

Hello RT fans, Rogue Trader Adventurers I hear you say, WRONG!

Today's post is a bit off topic as I am having to run two painting projects at once and share the time equally between the two.  I do have several more RT adventurers 80% finished but these will be coming to you later in this week (Hopefully).  Anyway to all you Oldhammer fans out there you may be aware of my intentions of coming to the Oldhammer Event at the Foundry so I had to discipline myself and start painting my pool of Realm of Chaos miniatures to choose from. Here is my first chaos miniature of the new millenium, I am going with a Khornate Chaos Warband.

Chaos Beastman. (see here for catalogue entry)

There is loads of inspiration over on Orlygg's Blog so get over there and get reading.

p.s. PVA is still wet on the grass tufts at the time of photo, please ignore.

RT601 - Adventurers Medley - Halfling Cook, Cyborg, Ventolin Pirate

Hi, Yesterday I told you I had a treat for you and here it is day two confined to the kitchen and today I managed to knock three classic miniatures out. I tested my new Army Painter inks on these miniatures, these were ordered from Warlord Games, I purchased one each of Strong Tone and Dark Tone inks and I am very impressed these inks are great replacements for Badaab Black and Devlan Mud washes, I am well versed in Strong Tone and Dark Tone army dips and these inks make a nice alternative. (p.s. The Army Painter super glue rules too)

The full original range can be seen here.

The later extended range can be seen here and here.

I am hoping to complete painting the Adventurers collection by the end of the year.

Here are my efforts.

Halfing Cook (Ratling), this fabulous miniature is obviously a ships cook and would be a welcome additioned to a Rogue Trader crew or a field cook for some Ratling snipers, made by designers who had a sense of humour. He has a pepper pot on his back which is a funny detail.

Cyborg (Servitor), definitely a precursor to the servitor, I will be working on the test-bred slave soon another precursor to the servitor. Eventually I will repaint my Bob Olley Servitors so he will have a few friends. (If mindless Servitors can make friends :s)

Ventolin Pirate, Humanoid Xenos perhaps? I wonder whats under the helmet? maybe a precursor to the Tau? I know nothing about the concept of this miniature, if anyone can enlighten me it would be great to hear from you.

Scientist - Talisman Timescape

Hi Folks, ok I lied I was able to do some painting today as the decorators wanted me out of the way so I rustled up a few paints and painted a Talisman Timescape Scientist and started a couple of other things that I will treat you too soon. This miniature makes a great NPC for the Dark Heresy RPG (other rpgs are available of course :D) and also makes a great objective or collateral damge/bystander for Warhammer 40K , I have always believed in adding lots of extra civilian miniatures to a battlefield to give is a bit more character.

Here is the Talisman Timescape range as you can see most of the miniatures are suitable for Rogue Trader games (not quite sure about Indy, Indy the Inquisitor?) and I believe they quite rare now as I have seen them on Ebay for about £15-£20.

Here is my effort, I don't think the photo does him justice but as you know I am rubbish at photography and really need to invest in a better camera, lighting setup and a training course. I wish I knew a technique for painting glass effect for the test tube but I don't so I may go back to him someday after some research. I also tested my new Army Painter Insane Detail Brush and I have to say I am impressed, I think I am going stop painting to wargames standard and invest a more time in my miniatures.

Oh, what else did you do today? I here you ask, well 8am till 9am I dettol stripped 30 citadel Chaos thugs and my rubber gloves fell apart and now my hands hurt :(

Genestealer Patriarch

Hey, apologies for the lack of updates but the house is in a right state as I have decorators in sorting out my new hobby room so painting is out of the question, everything is stored in cupboards and I am confined to the kitchen prepping and stripping miniatures. I can't wait to upload some pictures of the finished room which will be dedicated to miniature painting and other hobby related matters and hopefully I will be able to sneak bucket loads of Rogue Trader/Oldhammer stuff out of the loft and passed the missus.

Today's miniature is a running Genestealer Patriarch that I think was released towards the end of the Rogue trader era, I finished it last month. I am not the biggest fan of this miniature but I never purchased the more favoued Genestealer Patriarch on throne as I think it had sold out at the time, another painted version can be seen here on the Lexicanum site which I highly recommend.

The miniature looks like it was scuplted by Bob Olley to me but I am not 100%.

I painted this one up for our Dark Heresy/Deathwatch campaign but our Games Master went and sourced a more modern Broodlord from Ebay so it is now redundant for a while.

I love the Genestealer cult necklace it wears.

And here it is running amok around a Space Hulk.

On another note while painting miniatures is not an option for at least two weeks, I have been prepping Realm of Chaos miniatures hoping that I will be able to take part in the Oldhammer Realm of Chaos day at the Foundry.  Here is a picture of some of the Beastmen and Chaos Thugs I am hoping to choose from.

I have the next two days off work while the decorators are in so I am hoping to spray undercoat these miniatures in the greenhouse and on day two dettol strip another thirty chaos thugs and roughly the same number of chaos dwarves, I am hoping to get a good miniature foundation to choose from when it comes to seriously rolling a chaos champions warband, all drunken warband rolling efforts have been terrible so far so I thought I would sort out the miniature pool to choose from first. See Oldhammer and Orlygg's blog for more inspiration.
